Do you know, or are you a high school junior or senior living in the Chicago land or surrounding areas who is committed to going to college and pursuing their goals, hopes and dreams? Then this scholarship may be for you!
The James G Terry Scholarship is founded in honor of Cora's Helping Hands, Executive Director, and founder; Shanta Hogan Walker's late father, who was passionate about furthering education for his grandchildren and youth alike. This scholarship is for the young person who needs additional monetary support as they prepare for higher education.
The candidate must be a high school junior or senior living in Illinois in good standing with their school academically, maintaining a B grade point average or better (GPA). The candidate must be accepted or awaiting acceptance upon applying to any college or university; proof of acceptance must be supplied when available to be submitted.
A letter of recommendation is also required from a teacher, mentor, or parent on behalf of the applicant. Lastly, an essay of 200-500 words from the applicant explaining why they want to attend college, what they plan on using the funds for is also required, along with a current photo of the applicant.
